Friends of Ours

Since we opened our store in Leeds – and especially since we started using Twitter – we’ve had the pleasure of meeting lots of interesting people who live in and around Leeds. Most have been incredibly helpful by supporting us with blog posts and articles about us. Here are some of those people that have done that. I would recommend you take a look at all these wonderful sites.

My Life in Leeds

My Life in Leeds - Local Leeds Guide. Days out, places to visit Leeds

My Life in Leeds was founded by Darren Cronian, a Leeds resident so passionate about his home city that he set up this site to prove what a great place it is. The site is packed with great articles about things to do in Leeds and Leeds attractions, great for anyone who already lives in Leeds or just visiting. There are also guides to Leeds hotels and restaurants, helping tourists who visit the city. We have also been featured on this site in The independent spirit in Leeds shops and Five sandwich shops to eat out in Leeds which just demonstrates how they support the local community. Darren is also on Twitter @mylifeinleeds – why not tell him what you like doing in Leeds?

Leeds Grub

Leeds Grub

Possible the most comprehensive and unbiased restaurant review blog in Leeds. Katie has visited so many places and has given her honest opinion about them all. We’ve had the please of meeting Katie, she even ordered a Yorkshire Hamper for Christmas from us. If you’re looking for a place to eat in Leeds and you’re stuck going to the same old places, I recommend you give this blog a look. Katie is also on Twitter @Leedsgrub – why not let her know where your favourite places to eat is?

IronCupcake:Leeds

IronCupcakeLeeds - The Ultimate Cupcake Competition

This is such a simple but amazing idea. IronCupcake:Leeds is a competition that everyone can take part in. You are either a baker, or a judge. The bakers make a batch of cupcakes following a theme set by Zoe – the wonderful lady behind the competition. Themes can be anything such as Fizzy Drinks or Seeds or Nuts. Then my favourite bit, the judges get to go round and eat all the gorgeous cupcakes and score them. Once everyone is full from yummy cupcakes, the scores are added up and the winner announced. There are some great prizes as well, such as vouchers for top Leeds restaurants, recipe books and goodie bags.

The competition normally takes part the 2nd Sunday of the month at the Adelphi pub. It’s just £5 to get involved and for that you get a drink from the bar and all the cupcakes you can eat. Bargain. If you feel like taking on IronCupcake:Leeds or just like eating cupcakes (who doesn’t?), check out the rules and pop along to the next competition. Zoe is on Twitter @CupcakeLeeds – ask her about the next competition and marvel at these photos.

Them Apples

them apples - a blog about food and cooking in Saltaire and Leeds

You know when you just can’t decide how to cook your pigs head or need to know the best way to pickle your watermelon rind? Then this blog is for you. them apples covers everything from great recipes and restaurant reviews to food politics (with post that provoke a massive number of comments such as Is it OK for food bloggers to review restaurants?). I would describe Rich – the chap behind the blog – as a brave and adventurous cook. I think the one thing we can all learn from this blog is to enjoy food, try things out and go for things you wouldn’t normally try. Learn to master the basics in How to bake bread and work your way up to How to [kill! and] cook a crab (I’m not at that level yet). And our personal favourite, Pasta carbonara, with pancetta, peas and sage using our artisan pasta!

Lay The Table

Lay The Table - a Leeds food blogger : Easy recipes for cupcakes, cakes and asian food.

A combination of great recipes and stunning photography, this blog looks mouth watering. Try looking at the Veal & truffle ravioli, broad bean veloute, exotic mushrooms and wild asparagus post without drooling all over your keyboard. There’s a handy foodie visitor’s guide to Leeds and a great post on Tancred Field Farm and their excellent Spare Ribs!
